Memorial Day

Patriots, let us not forget what the true meaning of this national holiday is ... it is the day that we are to remember and honor those of us that gave their lives in the line of duty. It truly is a shame that most in this country doesn't know this, most think Memorial Day is just another reason to have a cookout or get together with friends and family.

We should hold this day with far more reverence than we do.  Those that gave their lives for our freedom deserve more respect than we, as a nation, give them.  These men and women were someone's Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, Mother, Son, or Daughter and they gave the ultimate gift to each and everyone of us that call ourselves Americans.  They sacrificed themselves so that we could live our lives as free men and women in this great country.

For those who would like to know how to honor our fallen soldiers, here is a list of things in which you can do personally or as a group.

  • by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.
  • by flying the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.
  • by flying the 'POW/MIA Flag' as well (Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act)
  • by participating in a "National Moment of Remembrance": at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and for Taps to be played.
  • by renewing a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our falled dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.

DCR Public Meeting

This post comes from the http://mathewscountyreview.blogspot.com/  This information is important to the Pen-Pats also; we need to work together on issues of this magnitude. The health of our water ways is of dire importance and we need to be involved in the process of determining how to care for and nurture them back to a state of good health.

DCR has issued a Notice of Public Meeting and Public Comments comments  for the development of a Water Quality Improvement Plan (Implementation Plan) for Impaired Shellfish Waters in Mathews, Middlesex and Gloucester Counties." This is on TMDLs, particularlly coliform bacterial contamination of the waters. The meeting will be May 23rd at the YMCA in Hartfield, 11487 General Puller Hwy, 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

Links to prior reports and maps of the 9 streams involved in this meeting are posted at http://www.insidethecrater.com The creeks that will be under review are as follows
1. Queens Creek
2.  Stutts Creek
3.  Edwards Creek
4.  BillupsCreek
5.  Morris Creek
6.  Cobbs Creek
7.  Healy Creek
8.  Wilton Creek
9.  Harper Creek plus parts of the Piankatank River.

We can expect more meetings in the future for other impaired areas, so even if you are not directly located near one of these, it would be good to attend to learn about how the Implementation Plans will be developed and what they might mean to us.
Special Thanks to Carol Bova for the information about this meeting.

Sleeping Giants and Things that will Come to Be

The Sleeping Giant is awakening. The Tea Party/Patriots are on the rise. Our military is being reminded that its allegiance is NOT to the government, but to the Constitution, a time-tested document to which each and every member swore an oath of support and protection. To all Americans who never took that oath of allegiance, always remember….”When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.”  The American people need to overcome their fears and strengthen their resolve to stand against tyranny in all its forms. Semper Fi
